YogaFlix is a monthly film series that showcases intriguing documentaries exploring what it means to be human. Each month features a different documentary (not all films are about “yoga”) and supports a local nonprofit doing important work that contributes to making our community a safe, healthy, and exciting place to live.
January’s screening features Y Yoga Movie in support of Yoga Forward.
Yoga Forward is a community service outreach program that brings the healing benefits of yoga and mindfulness to those who need it most. Current projects focus on integrating yoga access into prisons, into schools for faculty and administrators, and into the LGBTQ+ community. Founder Denise Druce has been a local yoga and fitness instructor for many years and was recently a featured speaker in the Salt Lake City TEDx production. Y Yoga Movie is an award-winning feature documentary which premiered at the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado. The movie follows filmmaker Aurthur Klein's journey as he met and studied with several yoga teachers, including Shiva Rea, Erich Schiffman, Ally Hamilton, and Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa; as he filmed on the beach, in a charter school in South Central Los Angeles, and everywhere in between; and as he sent his camera to Iraq with yoga teacher/wrestler Diamond Dallas Page, who was teaching American soldiers there at the time.
Advance registration is set at the suggested donation rate of $10. Should you wish to make a contribution in an amount other than the $10 recommendation to our partner nonprofit, we will be accepting donations via cash and credit card at the event. Advance registration is not required.
