Steve Jones lcsw utah salt lake city therapy yoga iRestSteve Jones is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a certified yoga and meditation facilitator. He grew up the youngest of three brothers outside of Billings, Montana, and moved to Utah in 1996 to further his studies at the University of Utah. He earned a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Theatre Studies and later went on to earn a Bachelor’s of Social Work and a Masters of Social Work. He is also living with Type 1 diabetes.

Steve has worked with juveniles struggling with ADHD and in the fields of addiction, domestic violence, and sexual trauma/abuse, including serving as the chair of the Salt Lake Area Domestic Violence Coalition (2012-2014).  He has facilitated more than a dozen healing retreats as a therapist and yoga instructor for combat veterans with PTSD and military sexual trauma. He also works extensively on mental health effects of managing chronic illnesses for individuals living with type 1 diabetes.

His therapy services emphasize fostering collaborative relationships of mutual respect grounded in a trauma-informed approach that honors each client’s unique life experiences. He accomplishes this by employing a variety of therapeutic modalities to conceptualize problems and create interventions, including EMDR, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness practices, cognitive behavioral therapy, and treatments rooted in the latest neuroscience.

In 2006, Steve was introduced to yoga as part of his own treatment for addiction. He instantly recognized the calming effect that the practice had on his mind and the uplifting benefits for him. However, he struggled to find a place where he felt comfortable practicing as a bigger guy and beginner in yoga. He also struggled to find somewhere that emphasized the mental health aspects of yoga. Finally, in 2012, he found a local studio where he felt at home and worked to earn his certification as a 200-hour yoga instructor.

After instructing yoga for trauma survivors at a local treatment center, Steve was introduced to the Integrative Restoration Institute’s (iRest) protocol for treatment of PTSD and began pursuit of his certification as an iRest teacher. Steve has infused iRest with his regular yoga practice to treat his type 1 diabetes with great success in his own life. He is currently a Level 2 Teacher-in-Training of the iRest protocol and working to further his certification level.

In addition to his academic achievements, Steve has studied trauma-sensitive yoga with faculty from the Trauma Center at the Justice Resource Institute, the Integrative Restoration Institute, and Warriors at Ease, and is currently the only certified Yoga for 12 Step Recovery leader in Utah.

He has presented on mental health interventions for chronic illness, yoga, mindfulness, and trauma sensitivity in building resilience and parenting for the University of Utah College of Social Work, American Association of Diabetes Educators, American Diabetes Association, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and Dr. Steve Edelman’s Taking Control of Your Diabetes Conference.

Steve’s vision for Full Circle Yoga and Therapy is an organic one born of his own experiences in his professional, academic, and personal lives. As Founder and Owner, Steve works to ensure that he and all Full Circle collaborators are constantly evolving and learning the next effective tools that can be mastered and employed to better serve the members of this community.

Steve loves the outdoors. He frequents the trails in Salt Lake City and the Wasatch Mountains by road bike, mountain bike, and on foot. His Montana heart takes him back to his home state on a regular basis for horseback riding, river floats, hiking, and biking.
