Julie Lynne Catoe
Julie Lynne Catoe is an Associate Clinical Mental Health Counselor currently practicing in Salt Lake City, Utah. She earned her Masters in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Mental Health (MSCP) from Chaminade University of Honolulu.
She is also a certified experienced Yoga Teacher, a meditation guide, and a certified Facilitator for Women’s Gatherings. She has completed additional year-long courses in Urban Priestess Training, in Healing Energy Shamanic level I, II, and III, and in Yoga Psychology. Julie’s business partner is her therapy dog Astro. He has been a working therapy dog since 2016.
Julie specializes in working with girls, teens, and women. She works with anxiety, depression, sexual abuse trauma, body image issues, and eating disorders. Julie uses more holistic approaches to counseling as she blends yoga and psychology to support clients from the inside out. Her approach is calm and supportive, and she is known for her ability to connect with clients and students.
At age 19, Julie found a counselor and started her recovery process from an Eating Disorder. She knows how valuable counseling is to the process of recovery, especially when it’s combined with meditation and yoga. She learned meditation as part of her recovery, then yoga soon followed. She knows that this blend played a major role in her recovery.
Instead of punishing and pushing her body, she learned how to listen to her triggers, slow down, and learn from her body. She knows and believes in this process because she has lived it and studied it. Now she wants to help others find peace and nourishment within their bodies and to discover their true potential.
In 2015 Julie created the Empowered Girls program, a group for female and female-identified youth (ages 7-14) where she combines counseling skills, yoga, meditation, mindfulness practices, female traditions, and group processing to help young girls find their personal empowerment.
Empowered Girls inspires participants to be in the world with strength, power, humor, flexibility, focus, and awareness. The group uses everything learned through group processing, openness, compassion, mindfulness and offers it out to others and ourselves.
Empowered Girls feel supported and safe to share and process exactly what is going on with them in the world without judgment. It is also a place to celebrate being female, to share meditations and yoga, and to support one another in connection and conversation.
Julie was raised in Utah and left for new experiences in California, Texas, Georgia, and the last 10 years in Hawai’i. She has returned to Utah with her husband, two daughters, and Astro. She spends as much time possible hiking, mountain biking, trail running, or meditating in the mountains. She truly enjoys the mountains and connecting with nature as often as possible.
